Various things for today
The other day I was making a sandwich out of some Maeir’s Steak rolls. (I really do need a life). But the interesting thing is this. The rolls were purchased a few days before Christmas for Christmas Eve. The rolls have been in a bag on the counter ever since. They were still pretty fresh. Scary isn’t it? Not only my life in the fast lane but the kind of preservatives that must be in these things.
Speaking of modern day shopping….
There is in my neighborhood a little shopping center. This place is a throwback to something some can remember but many can’t. They have in this shopping center a Five and Dime store like used to be on main street in the good ole days. In this store they have…
..bins of penny candy! And can you believe this?
A gumball machine you can buy. Is this cool or what? I thought those gum ball machines were pretty neat when I was a kid.
This shopping center has an old True Value hardware store. The kind where you can barely walk down the isles and they have all those odds and ends you don’t find at the box stores. I have heard that during the summer the employees have a grill going behind the back and they go there for beer and burgers on break and lunch.
There is a little independent bakery that sponsors a bike club called The Cream Puffs. It’s not a club of women by the way. How embarassing! I think they should sponsor the Lard Butts.
This just in…
The U.S. has more contractors in Iraq and Afghanistan than military personnel. Read all about it here. Sounds like things are pretty much running amuck. Especially with the Blackwater USA type contractors.
As President Eisenhower said:
“In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist.”
And related to the contractor black hole of money, has anyone heard what Dick Cheney is up to? With the campaign going on nobody is covering(watching) him.
Now that is a scary thought.
