Red States & The Big Bad Government
I grew up in a small town in Idaho.(sounds like I am going to sing some Mellencamp) It is one of the reddest states in the nation. The county where I grew up is probably as red as any county in Utah or the U.S. Idaho borders Nevada home of the sage brush rebellion.
Nothing is worse to the western folks than those big spending tax and spend liberals. Now see this from a recent story in my hometown newspaper.
Work is winding down on a million-dollar-plus S. State Street project… The city’s 7.34 percent portion of the rebuild is mostly paid already. The project is being funded wih 92.66 percent federal monies.
We need to do something about wasteful government spending. The problem is that most wasteful spending is only that spending that is spent on someone other than yourself.

With 10 trillion dollars of national debt and the economy in turmoil, how can anyone think the Republicans are not to blame? It amazes how so many people will blindly follow and believe.
We all should be asking questions and demanding answers from our elected officials regardless of party affiliation.

Bob; The fact is that no politician is going to tell us what we need to hear but don’t want to hear. The last one who did was Jimmy Carter and he was ridiculed for denying people the American dream. But we all need to cut back and live more conservatively and simply. If we did we would have a recession no doubt. But as individuals we can’t keep consuming and living on debt. Personal debt has grown as much as government debt.
We made a basic shift in public policy in 1980 with election of Reagan. And even though conservatives like to talk about those liberal Dems much of what Clinton did was middle of the road and followed pretty much along the same path.

I totally agree. As I watch the ads on television, people shop, and the stores putting out Christmas items in late September, I wonder how long will the mega consumerism attitude last before it all comes crashing down?
