We have had that happen to us a couple of times. I suppose its bad karma for all the free music pirating we do. Luckily Jay knows what he is doing and can reprogram and reformat from virtually nothing.

Loosing information and reformatting is a pain. But having to reload Windows and get all of the updates and service packs installed is a bigger pain.

The last time I did the reformat I also purchased and external drive to drag, drop, and backup everything periodically. I only hook the drive up to my computer to do backups after I have run my anti virus and spyware programs. Otherwise it is not hooked up. So far the drive is free of any malicious programs.

I have had that happen to me. Basically the pc stopped functioning or was down to a crawl. First, being clueless in this world, I assumed it was because the pc was a few years old but then it finally dawned on me that it was infected. We got it fixed but it was never the same again. So we eventually chucked it and used the opportunity to just get a new one…

Now I am totally alert and thanks to having a son who is totally into computer programming and all that stuff, my pc problems are fixed before too late…

My conputer is about a year and a half old now and luckily I havnt run into that problem yet. I do try to be safe about downloading stuff. I think I had a virus that disguised itself as my anti virus program so when i clicked on it all hell brok loose for about 5 seconds and then my REAL anti virus program stopped it. It was a little wierd while the monitor was flashing colors and making a terrible screaching noise for those 5 seconds.

If I am reading through the lines correctly here, I would say Red has been visiting “teenager sites.” Trying to get back to your youth….

I have heard that gaming sites are particularly bad. Back in the day I learned that one first hand. My dad wasn’t too happy about our computer getting turned into a slug.

Hope you get everything back to normal soon. I know what a pain it can be to have to try and find all your favorite sites again… but you’re right, it is good to clear the clutter.

The computer guy told me that it is generally sites where teenagers go that cause these problems.

I feel your pain, I hate viruses. We normally get them after someone in our house has downloaded free programs off the internet. *sigh*

I always have to take it to the computer geek in town it’s not like they can’t use there own computer!!
