Brooks Saddle
There are some things in life that technology doesn’t improve on. Some times we search and try many different so called improvements until we realize that somebody had the correct answer 100 years ago.
In my opinion one of those is the Brooks Saddle.

Over the last few years I have replaced the saddle on all my bikes with a Brooks B17. You can read about the company here.
Some people think it is too heavy. I think it is elegant and classic. If somebody wants to quibble about the extra 8 ounces let them. I can ride with this saddle with regular shorts and feel fine.
This is a saddle that gets more beautiful with age. And with a little care will out last your bicycle.

I have to agree. I have a Antique brown Brooks B66s on my Pashley and at first, it was ummm… but after many miles, it became very comfortable! Ormaybe my ass just got tougher?
I have to admit, when I lock up my bike, I also lock up the saddle. I’m more worried about it getting ganked than the bike itself. Silly, no?

mfranti: The theory is that the leather saddle eventually conforms to your own backside so your experience makes sense.
And it is not silly to lock your saddle. I have seen antque Brooks saddles for sale for $600.

Most people who quibble about weight need to realize the best weight a person can shed from their bike is their own weight. If they rode on a Brooks and lost a pound of fat they would be riding in comfort and with less weight.
I still own a Brooks from when I was a kid.

Your right, it does look more elegant. But, is it comfy to ride on? That is what would sell me!

Jen721: See the comments from the other users. Elegance doesn’t keep people using these saddles for many years.
It’s comfort. There is a certain break in period. But once there, it is the most comfortable saddle I have ever used. It does look hard and it is. I think the reason it is more corfortable is because of its rounded edges and the fact is supports your sit bones.
There is another downside. Because it is leather you do need to give it a little care now and then. Put some conditioner/saddle soap on it once in awhile. And you need to be more concerned and keep it covered when riding in the rain. You wouldn’t want it to get soaking wet if you can help it.
