Make Way For The Ducklings

I know these are not ducks they are geese.   But whenever I see them along the bike path I think about the book “Make Way for the Ducklings”.    We used to read it to the children.

This picture doesn’t do justice to how the area along the Mt Vernon bike path is often covered with geese this time of year.  Many times the entire field will be covered as thick with geese as the small area in this photo.  The geese are acclimated to the people on the trail so they don’t scatter.

They think they own the trail and hardly move at all when I bicycle by.  It is rather nerve wracking because they are not small.  And the trail will also be covered with droppings.

I love these pictures. There’s just something about a flock photo, or is it FHOTO?

Nice pictures and timely considering the crash in the Hudson River was caused by their cousins.

Those birdies are cause some big problems these days (yesterdays plane crash). Aren’t they suppose to fly south? Perhaps they are on a long pit stop. They are beautiful.

I can’t get over the fact that these birds have become so incredibly ballsy! Being this close to Lake Michigan I am positive that the sea gulls and the geese are going to break out in to some type of gang war. They’ve got the graffiti bird crap writings all over the place already!

Thanks for showing up again ;)

P.S. Stay home. You will see much more if you are perched on your couch instead of your bike. I would worry about you making it back home. Please stay put. Ride around you block a couple of times before it starts and then come in.

I get calls all the time to chase geese of the road that dont want to move, and this is on major streets with traffic moving 50 mph or greater! They just dont seem to care. Than again it probably helps the gene pool, for every one live goose I chase off the road, I scrap 2 more off with a shovel!

I once had a robin try to fly through my front wheel. It was a near crash. I goose would surely cause a crash.

When my oldest son was younger, we couldn’t take him to the local park because of his love for the ‘green cheetos’ left behind by the geese.

Once I ran over two squirrels as they tried to dart across the trail. They lived on one side but ate on the other. I believe they lived though, I didn’t see them on the trail later.

    Squirrels are the worst.
