Two Very Different Confrontation Stories

Check out these two stories about a Critical Mass ride in Ogden Utah.

One is by the Ogden paper.

The other is the Salt Lake Tribune.

When I was living in Utah I once had a Davis County Police Officer intentionally brush very  close to me as he passed.  It was pretty obvious that he had it in for cyclists.

Something tells me there were bad decisions on both sides but neither side wants to be seen as being in the wrong. But I find being the woman’s story of being hit in the face with a drink hard to swallow (no pun intended) because who rides a bike with a drink in hand????

Those Critical Mass people can be a little crazy, I understand their point but I’m not sure they’re doing the rest of us a favor.

It is amazing how misunderstandings can snowball into an all out brawl. I can only imagine Police showing up with 10 different stories of what had happened and them having to figure out who to arrest, who to trust, etc. That would be very difficult with 40-70 people surrounding you and yelling all sorts of things.

I saw an attempt at a ‘critical mass’ in Provo. There were about 10 cyclists taking an entire lane and being obnoxious. Evidently they don’t understand the term ‘critical mass’. I think that what was once an opportunity to show that we have the numbers to demand respect peacefully and silently has turned to an opportunity to be obnoxious and raise awareness of unlawful cyclists.
