About Red

My nickname is Red. I grew up on a farm in Southern Idaho. They say you can take the boy out of the farm but you can’t take the farm out of the boy. It is also said that you can never go home again. In my case, I believe they both have some truth. I was born on the tail end of the baby boom. Thus, I am old enough to know better. I have lived long enough to go from “young enough to not give a damn” to “giving a damn” to experiencing enough of life to now be wondering what the hell is happening!

I am a father of six and a grandfather. I am an avid bicyclist. It’s not just for recreation but a life style that could help save our planet and the world. I am a reader and observer of the world. I’m joker, I’m smoker, I’m a midnight toker! No not really! At least I am not a smoker or toker. But I am a picker, grinner, lover and a sinner. I am a music lyrics hound and can find a song appropriate for just about any comment.

Politically I have been called a liberal and an ultraconservative. Go figure! I am currently registered as unaffiliated. I call myself a Recovering Republican. :) I pretty much gave up on the GOP when it became the party of the religious right. I think GW Bush is the worst president in my life time. It is unfortunate that our country is led by a person whose life of privilege gave him all the opportunities for knowledge and education but he has chosen ignorance  over enlightenment. I am embarrassed and ashamed to say I even voted for him the first time around. I think it was the last time I voted for a Republican.

All of the above is the reason for this blog. The opportunity to talk about life. A chance to talk bicycling, bicycle commuting and touring. To promote the bicycle as more than a toy but as a form of transportation and a life style. A place to vent about current events and politics.

In short, this could be called a place for the ranting of a raving lunatic.
